partnered with a premier firm providing commercial property and
casualty insurance products and services through independent agents
across several states. Our client's strong local presence ensures
that underwriting and support remain close to their customers. The
Role As a Sr Commercial Lines Underwriter , you'll be responsible
for the management, ownership, and growth of an assigned book of
business and acquisition of new business within the middle markets,
property and casualty insurance space. You'll evaluate the
acceptability of individual risks and determine terms, conditions,
and pricing to achieve profit objectives. You will work with
agents/brokers to develop productive and profitable relationships
and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines. You will also
serve in an informal leadership role in the branch by guiding less

Underwrite new business for P&C Middle Markets by reviewing
applications, requesting additional information if necessary, and
accepting or rejecting risks in conformance with guidelines.
Underwrite within authority set by the Commercial Lines Vice
President and within reinsurance treaty limits; correspond with
agencies to collect additional information. Underwrite renewal
business by reviewing insured files, agency experience, loss
frequency, loss control surveys, motor vehicle reports, and prior
carrier loss history. Assist in the development of new products,
pricing, or coverages. Develop productive and profitable
relationships with agents/brokers. Maintain established loss
ratios. Meet production goals and deliver timely service. Serve as
staff liaison for assigned line, disseminating updates and
developing staff. Travel within the assigned territory for customer
development and relationship building. Pursue continuing education
through industry- and company-sponsored courses. Assist in training
other personnel as directed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in
insurance or related field and/or seven (7) years minimum middle
market commercial lines management with marketing experience or
equivalent industry experience. Demonstrated ability to develop a
profitable commercial lines book of business, with solid experience
of the full components of P&C Underwriting. Knowledge of ISO
Based Forms. Aptitude to apply principles of logical thinking to
define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
conclusions. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general
business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures,
or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Competence to effectively
present information and respond to questions from groups of
managers, employees, agents, and vendors. Ability to calculate
figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,
proportions, percentages, circumference, and volume. Propensity to
project a warm and friendly manner in all business contacts and
maintain a professional relationship with fellow workers, agency
contacts, and the general public. This position is based in our
client's San Antonio, TX office with a hybrid schedule of four days
in-office and one day remote, where appropriate.
