following job information.Summary: Registered professional nurse
who assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total
nursing care and functions in accordance with established
philosophy, providing and directing patient care for a group of
patients. Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for
optimal continuity of care. Provides clinical supervision for entry
level nurses and assists in their development. This position is for
a GI RN for pre operative, circulation, and post op of GI
procedures. Responsible for admitting the patient to the clinical
area and providing nursing care to the preoperative patient, as
well as, developing a nursing care plan specifically designed for
the individual patient. The staffing of the Center is based on a
teamwork concept. Employees may be cross-trained in other clinical
areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal
ones as staffing and patient needs change. We are also looking for
one to deliver nursing care in the Post-Operative Care Unit (PACU)
to patients entering the postoperative phase of treatment,
responsible for assessing the patient's condition and readiness for
discharge. The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork
concept. Employees may be cross-trained in other clinical areas and
may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as
staffing and patient needs change. Pre-Op Ensures the preoperative
area has a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients at
all timesEnsures supplies and equipment needed are available and in
good working orderAdmits the patient to the unit and prepares
him/her for the scheduled procedureMakes initial assessment and
determines the nursing needs of the patientExplains nursing
procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxietyIdentifies
patient's physical and mental statusMonitors the patient's medical
condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting
physician or anesthesiologistAssures surgical consent and
preoperative test results are in the medical record prior to
proposed procedureReports any important health history facts to the
operating room nurseGives patients and family members emotional
support as necessaryDocuments patient care delivered, accurately in
the medical recordPerforms other nursing duties as
assignedMaintains established Center/departmental policies and
proceduresMaintains confidentiality of patient and Center related
businessDevelops and maintains an effective working relationship
with patients, families, visitors and other Center
employeesDocuments concisely, precisely and accurately on all
records or documents as indicated by policy.Participates in Quality
Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of
patient care and Center businessPACU Ensures that the PACU has a
clean and therapeutic environment for all patients at all
timesEnsures supplies and equipment needed are available and in
good working orderAdmits the patient to the unit and monitors
recovery from anesthesia and surgical procedureMakes initial
assessment and determined the nursing needs of the patientFollows
and implements physician's orders and performs all required nursing
activitiesExplains nursing procedures and actions taken to help
reduce anxietyIdentifies patient's physical and mental
statusMonitors the patient's medical condition and reports any
significant changes to the admitting physician or
anesthesiologistDocuments accurately in the patient's medical
record the care received and the progress in the recovery
processAssures that the patient fits the documented criteria prior
to dischargeGives patients and family members emotional support as
necessaryPerforms other nursing duties as assignedMaintains

businessQualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of
professional nursing or vocational schoolLicensed to practice in
the statePrevious preoperative care experience preferredPrevious
