Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
- - - - - - - - - - - Accurately and rapidly collect blood or
laboratory samples using appropriate aseptic collection methods and
the correct collection system, from inpatients and outpatients in
the proper container, correctly labeling all tubes. Utilizes
Laboratory LIS to receive specimens, generate labels and create
specimen transfer lists. - Follows proper infectious/isolation
policies. - Performs duties promptly, safely, efficiently and
reliably. - When drawing donors and therapeutic patients, prepares
components and performs donor room QC when assigned. - Screens
donors and ensures the confidentiality and privacy of donors and
patients. Consistently performs assigned duties accurately and
rapidly. Projects a professional demeanor and maintains good guest
relations and working relations by following UH Customer Service
Standards.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- - - - - - - - - - - High school diploma or equivalent required
and one year of laboratory experience preferred; or Military
Laboratory Training: (Phase I -Air Force or Basic-Army).
- - - - - - - - - - - Knowledge of capillary and venipuncture
techniques is preferred. One-year experience is highly desirable
for donor and therapeutic lab draws.

LICENSURE/ CERTIFICATION
The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification
(ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) for phlebotomy
technician (PBT) or Donor Phlebotomy Technician (DPT) certification
is not required, but highly recommended. - A current certification
status must be maintained in compliance with specifications for
continuing education required by the certification agency.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association
card/training is required.
