JOB TITLE: School Nurse WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO:

April 2020 PRIMARY PURPOSE: Implement a program of health services
for the district within the framework of the philosophy and
objectives established by board policy and consistent with statutes
and standards of regulatory agencies. QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: Registered professional nurse with current
Texas license issued by Board of Nurse Examiners and/or Texas
Education School Nurse Certification Special Knowledge/Skills:
Vision and hearing screening certifications; CPR and first aid
certifications Minimum Experience: Two years nursing experience
preferably in community health and/or a public school setting
preferred MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Maintain a cumulative
health record for each student. Maintain and review immunization
records and refer as necessary in order to be in compliance with
state law. Maintain accurate records and prepare campus reports for
submission to state agencies as required. Perform screening
activities such as vision, hearing, spinal, dental, height and
weight, blood pressure, and hair and scalp and maintain appropriate
records of referrals and recommended treatments. Coordinate and
schedule campus screening with nurse coordinator and principal.
Give medication to students as requested and provided by parents;
perform necessary health-related treatments as prescribed by
physician and with parental consent. Complete Medicaid billing on
Special Education students requiring personal care services. Read
tuberculin skin tests and maintain records of results and
follow-ups in cooperation with the Hays County Health Department.
Communicate regularly with principal and nurse coordinator
regarding health service issues. Provide care and follow-through
for ill and injured students, referring to physician or health-care
facility as needed. Provide school and community resources for
students in need of glasses, clothing, physician consultation,
dental visits, and social services. Notify parents of accident or
illness; secure transportation of ill or injured students, if
needed, to home, physician, or health-care facility. Interact with
students and parents to promote a positive attitude toward personal
health and responsibility for maintaining health. Implement safety
programs and prevention measures to promote the well-being of
students. Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to
work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to
established work schedule. Be a health advocate for students. Be a
member of the school safety team and RTI team. Report child abuse.
Maintain campus supplies and equipment in order to provide a
functional health services program. Make home visits as needed.
Conduct teacher, parent, and student conferences as needed. Provide
teachers with student health information on a need-to-know basis.
Attend ARD meetings when appropriate Provide appropriate health
services for faculty and staff. Cooperate with personnel in
planning and implementing school health services. Be a resource
person for faculty and staff in planning and implementing health
instruction. Assist in determining staff development programs in
the area of health services. Promote positive relations with
parents, staff, and community through effective communication and
interaction. Participate in continuing education and professional
growth in order to be knowledgeable and skillful in performing
health appraisals and identifying student health needs. Participate
in faculty activities. Supervise nurse assistants/aides or assigned
personnel. Change diapers and assist children with personal hygiene
including changing soiled clothing. Write individual health care
plans for those students with special health care needs. Schedule
influenza immunizations with the Hays County Health Department for
employees/families on their campus. Perform other duties or
responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. WORKING CONDITIONS:
